What Are Generic Cartridges?

Q&A : Generic Printer Supplies

What are new compatible cartridges?

New compatible cartridges are made by a third-party manufacturer (not the printer brand itself) using 100% brand new parts (plastic casing, mechanical and imaging components, ink or toner and micro-chips). They are designed to offer similar performance, page yield and print quality as original (OEM) equivalents at a much lower cost.

What are remanufactured (or refurbished) cartridges?

Remanufactured cartridges are recycled OEM (original equipment manufacturer) cartridges that have been professionally restored. The remanufacturing process begins by disassembling and cleaning an empty cartridge, replacing worn or single-use components, refilling the original plastic corr with ink or toner before being tested, resealed and packaged. Remanufactured cartridges are an eco-friendly, cost-saving alternative with equal performance and quality as their OEM equivalents.

How do generic cartridges compare to originals (OEM)?

Our new compatible or remanufactured ink and toner cartridges deliver great quality at a much lower cost than originals. They are tested for consistent performance, sharp text and vibrant colors comparable to OEM cartridges.

Most generic cartridges produce print quality that is very close to OEM, especially for everyday printing. However, for professional-grade photo or color printing, OEMs may still offer slightly better results, depending on the printer model.

Will generic printer cartridges last as long as originals?

Yes. Although not all generic cartridges are made the same, all new compatible or remanufactured printer cartridges that we offer have been tested to output the same and in some cases even more page yields as originals.

Are generic cartridges safe to use?

Yes. High-quality generic printer cartridges are safe and have been tested and will not damage your printer.

Will generic cartridges void my printer's warranty?

No. According to consumer protection laws in many regions, using third-party supplies does not void your printer warranty.

*Advertised page yields are estimated according to ISO/IEC 19752 and ISO/IEC 19798 standard testing methodologies based on an approximate 5% page coverage. Actual yields will vary depending on: contents of printed pages, frequency of printing, environmental conditions, paper size and other factors. High-density graphics, photos, and heavy text will significantly reduce page yields. These page yield figures are intended to serve as a guide and are in no way a guarantee.
